YOUTHS TO GO OFFROAD AT ACTION PARK
Bosses who have opened a new offroad action park are hoping to steer troublesome youths in the right direction.
The site just off Arterial Road in Wickford attracted crowds of thrill seekers when it launched on Sunday. From quad bikes, motocross and rally driving tracks to archery and paintball target shooting, Offroad Action Park offers exciting facilities for everyone.
The park's manager is already cranking up the gears by working alongside police, social services and youth organisations to put the brakon anti-social behaviour by encouraging youngsters to get involved. manager Jo Callaghan said: 'We are big believers in giving something back to the community. I am meeting MP John Baron to discuss how we can work to redirect these kids and get them off the streets.' She added 'A lot of the community police are trying to stop kids riding their motorcross bikes illegally. They'll ride around with no helmet and its so dangerous. What we've been trying to explain to the police is if they take the bike from a 13 year old kid, that kid will hate the police for the rest of his life. we would like for them to store their bikes here where they can use them safely.'
The drive to keep youngsters on the right tracks is already proving a hit, with many youth organisations jumping at the chance to get involved. Jo said 'Essex County Council bought a group of youngsters down and there was one girl who didnt want to take part. When I came back 20 minutes latersomeone had obviously cajoled her in to joining in and she was having a great time.'
However its not just difficult youths who are enjoying the thrills at Offroad Action Park, many schools keen to reward good pupils have been in contact to find out whats on offer. Jo said 'Thats really nice because sometimes its the good kids that get forgotten about.'
The centre is open to all age groups and caters for corporate events and stag and hen do's. Jo added 'I defy anyone to come down and not have a great time'
All the money raised at the launch went towards Little Havens Childrens Hospice in memory of Billericay boy Jack Burns who died of Leukemia in 2006, aged 10.
